Photography 101 Itinerary:

This is a hands-on, tell-it-like-it-is, no holds barred workshop. This program isn't about blogging or branding or any of that trendy "look how fabulous I am!" clap-trap, it's about giving you a stronger foundation in photography and business. This program is about lighting, posing, processing, and selling. You will leave this workshop with the tools in hand to realize your visions through photographic lighting and composition, and then get paid for it.

In addition to classroom instruction and shooting demonstrations by Matt & Krystal, you'll also have the opportunity to learn from one-on-one portfolio and business reviews. Attendance is capped at 20 students.

Pre-Seminar Social (Monday 10/27): 7-9pm

A friendly get-together in the Penthouse lounge, overlooking the ocean at sunset. This is your chance to meet your classmates and instructors, network and unwind after traveling.

Day One (Tues 10/28, All Day)

9AM - 12PM : Fundamentals of Lighting - You'll start in the studio with five strobes, and work your way down to just one, and then none as you learn to find these image-shaping lights in nature. Learn how to evaluate not just quantity of light, but quality as well, so you can shape the light in your images to capture the mood in your vision.
12PM-1PM : Lunch (included!)
1PM-4PM : Lighting on Location- quick and dirty ways to get great light patterns using ambient light, additive and subtractive lighting and light modifiers. Can't tell a scrim from a gobo? This part's for you!
4PM-5PM: Model Mayhem - Your chance to apply what you've learned, shooting on the streets and on the beach.
5PM-6PM: Dusk Magic! Demonstrations of lighting at dusk, at night and in dimly lit interiors.

Day Two (Wed 10/29, All Day):

9AM-12PM: Learn how to take good images and make them great with RAW processing, (very few) actions, retouching and sharpening techniques. Want to know how to make your images "pop?" Do you look at your images and say, "man, I wish these were crisp and vibrant instead of muddy and god-awful?" Then don't sleep through this part! Bring your images from day one and your laptops. Oh, and you'll learn how to polish turds, too.
12PM-1PM: Lunch (included!)
1PM-4PM: Design that doesn't suck. Learn how to design albums, cards, and marketing pieces that communicate your message through color and composition.

5:00 - 6:30 Downtown Jacksonville urban shoot: watch Matt & Krystal work with a couple in a real-time downtown environmental shoot, looking for lighting and posing on the fly.
7:00PM: Dinner on the Riverwalk (Jacksonville at night is gorgeous!)

Day Three (Thurs 10/30, Half Day):

Marketing & Selling - Learn time-tested techniques for you to get and maintain loyal customers and a presence in your community.
Goal setting (that is, how to actually implement all the stuff you learned!)
Coffee & Appetizers (included!)
